Description
Most West African countries are characterized by stagnating economies and by high levels of unemployment among the youth. Migration from and within the sub-region includes temporary cross-border workers, female traders and farm labourers, professionals, clandestine workers and refugees and are essentially intra-regional, short term and male dominated. The sub-region also encompasses countries of immigration and emigration as well as those that combine both.

In this context, the ROAME (Operational repertoire of African jobs and professions) was created following a EU-funded project called “Partnership for Labour Migration Management between the EU, Benin, Mali, Senegal and Cameroon”. The ROAME has proven to be a great added value or Public Employment Services, and a useful tool for international professional exchange and mobility, by allowing a better evaluation of the correspondence between available capacities in sub-Saharan countries and employers needs in destination countries.

To be able to ensure higher sustainability of the ROAME and subsequently for the labour migration management model and techniques, Benin, Mali, Senegal and Cameroon requested support from MIEUX to strengthen the process of development and implementation of the ROAME. During this Action, crucial steps were taken during the seminar, notably the elaboration of the governance charter, the validation of the action plan and the extension of the ROAME to Togo and Ivory Coast.
