Description
Kenya is regarded as both a transit and destination country largely due to tourism and its migrant population mainly originates from its regional neighbours in the Horn of Africa. In 2011, the government of Kenya was adopted the Citizenship and Immigration Act and was in the process of procuring an e-visa and e-border management system, intended to cover all national border control points in the country but training was required to implement this.

In this context the Department of Immigration and Registration of Person requested MIEUX’s technical assistance to build its capacity in targeted areas of need with a view to effectively implementing recently developed migration legislation.

After an assessment to identify the exact capacity building needs, staff member of different Kenyan institutions such as the Immigration Department and National Registration Bureau, participated in training on border management and document security, and a training of trainers. The capacity building activities aimed to not only build the individual capacities of the staff, but also lead to a stronger collaboration and information sharing between the different national stakeholders dealing with travel documents.
