Azerbaijan’s migration flows exhibit strong regional ties – the main countries of destination for emigrants, as well as the main countries of origin for immigrants, are other Central Asia countries. With regards to trafficking in human beings (THB), Azerbaijan is a source, transit and destination country, but while its migration profile revolves around former Soviet countries, the THB routes have a more global reach.

Despite the significant efforts and progress in combatting THB, there are a number of challenges faced by the Government of Azerbaijan and it is in this context that the Ministry of Internal Affairs requested the support of MIEUX+ to assist their efforts in combatting THB.

In particular, the partner authority highlighted support in developing the capacities of the NGO coalition working on anti-trafficking, and strengthening the cooperation between the coalition and the Government on combatting THB, as well exchanging knowledge with EU MS on the role of Informations and Communications Technologies (ICT) in combatting THB.
