Duration: February 2023 - August 2023

Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa, with a long tradition of incoming and outgoing, permanent and transitory migration flows. MIEUX+ Action Niger IV centres on the region of Tahoua, that is marked by significant and heterogeneous human mobility movements, including asylum seekers, seasonal workers, and more and more people in vulnerable situations.

In this context, the Tahoua Regional Council would like to better cope with the migration phenomenon in its complexity , and make use of its own diaspora to contribute to the region’ socio-economic development.

The MIEUX+ team will partner with the Regional Council and the NGO GRASPI to bolster their staff’s knowledge and skills in three main areas:

  • migration data management;
  • inclusion of migration in local and regional public policy planning;
  • diaspora engagement at local and regional levels.

Through two onsite workshops and tailored guidelines, the Tahoua region will delve into the connections between migration and development, will discuss how to integrate the migratory element into their policy planning, to mobilise its diaspora, and to better manage and use the migration data collected.
