The current phase seeks to build on the achievements from the last 12 years by applying a five-c approach. While capitalising on the key features, practices and outcomes of the previous and current phases, MIEUX+ will aim to consolidate innovative methods and approaches to deliver capacity building by ensuring continuity to this world-renowned EU facility while creating complementarities with various initiatives at the EU and global levels and by forging policy and institutional coherence.
MIEUX and COVID – 19
Current circumstances imply that missions are suspended, pending review from the national authorities and ICMPD’s security recommendations. In the meantime, the team in Brussels is busy with preparations for the next phase, which will incorporate the lessons learnt from the implementation of the Migrants in Countries of Crisis (MICIC) Project. This will translate into the ability to respond to specific capacity building needs related to crisis preparedness, emergency response and post-crisis.
As stated by Alfred Woeger, MIEUX’s Programme Manager, “In spite of the current limitations regarding travel and mobility, we are ready to receive new requests and make the necessary preparations to resume our activities as soon as it is safe and advisable to do so. In the meantime, we look forward to receiving new requests and designing the next Actions together with our partners.”
Building on past achievements
MIEUX’s third phase leaves behind a legacy of achievements across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and the EU Neighbourhood. For this phase, MIEUX+ will maintain the same peer-to-peer formula it is known for while seeking to increase its ability to analyse current and future trends in all areas of migration.

MIEUX+’s lack of bureaucratic procedures makes it simple for interested parties to submit a request.
The following entities are eligible to submit requests to MIEUX+:
- Regional organisations
- National Ministries or government agencies
- Local-level government authority
- Civil society organisations (together with a governmental entity)
- Judicial sector
- Parliamentary bodies
