Description
Strategically located in Central America, Panama has become a transit country for irregular migrants heading north. Panama’s strategic geographic location and extensive coastline make it particularly vulnerable to irregular migration flows and international organised crime. As such, border management has become a top priority for the Government.

The Ministry of Government and Justice (MGJ) has important responsibilities in the area of migration and requested MIEUX’ support in introducing methodologies and tools for developing a national Integrated Border Management (IBM) strategy and action plan.

Different workshops on key topics related to IBM were organised and EU expertise and good practices were shared with the MGJ. The Action also included key sets of recommendations for the development of the national IBM policy.
