Timor-Leste is a small state in Southeast Asia and ranks fourth in the list of the youngest countries in the world. As a newcomer to many regional and international forums, Timor-Leste needs support in many areas of migration management.

Authorities had limited capacity and lack accurate information to combat trafficking. The few protection services available to actual and potential victims of trafficking were limited to urban areas, and the service providers often lack knowledge and skills.

After a request from the Migration Service housed within the Ministry of Interior in 2016, MIEUX prepared a series of activities, including a study visit to Thailand and training sessions.

Since 2018, the results from this Action are carried forward by a group of immigration officials who were trained with support from a handbook and an aide-mémoire on trafficking in human beings.
