HIGHLIGHTS SINCE SUMMER 2017

A NEW LOOK FOR MIEUX

MIEUX’s new user-friendly and interactive website was launched in July 2017. It allows for any individual to become familiar with MIEUX’s mission, thematic areas and regions where we work. Some key features include:

IN A NUTSHELL: JUNE-SEPTEMBER 2017

During the third quarter of the year, MIEUX deployed 17 experts to deliver assistance to 12 countries. Eight activities took place within the African continent, three in Latin America & the Caribbean, and one in the Middle East and Gulf Countries. Integration, Trafficking in Human Beings (THB), Migration and Development and Irregular Migration were just some of the themes tackled.

SPOTLIGHT ON TRAFFICKING IN HUMAN BEINGS

Currently, about 20% of MIEUX’s ongoing projects are focused on fighting against Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) through several strands of cooperation. On the occasion of the 11th EU Anti-Trafficking Day on 18 October 2017, we shared a selection of six projects that are currently ongoing.

From developing training curriculums for staff at city or national level to promoting judicial cooperation at an interregional level, MIEUX’s activities are making a positive impact on institutions around the world.

EXPLORING PARTNERSHIPS

IN VIENNA

ICMPD gathered over 300 ministers, senior-level policymakers, diplomatic missions, and influential migration experts for the second annual edition of the Vienna Migration Conference (VMC) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences on 23 and 24 October 2017.

We attended the Conference and took away three main highlights for our work.

IN BRUSSELS

Partnerships are the new buzzword for migration management. On 21 September 2017, we explored the relationship between capacity development and migration partnerships with a selected group of participants EU institutions and agencies; cooperation, development and migration agencies of EU Member States and Switzerland; as well as two EU partner countries, representatives from a civil society organisation and a network of local authorities through a peer-to-peer workshop.

This “European Conversation” paves the way for a series of regional events throughout 2018 where MIEUX is operative, namely Africa, Asia, the EU Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood countries, and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

MIEUX REFLECTIONS

MIEUX Reflections is an ongoing series that provides a space where our Project Staff can share their insights on their recent missions. These missions provide opportunities to interact with the full range of local, regional and/or national actors that are involved in MIEUX’s activities.

Once on the ground, the many months of preparation come alive, inspiring our team to go forward and apply Lessons Learnt into new activities.
