Objective

Contribute to strengthening the capacities of Nigerien authorities and civil society organisations in better managing migration among the youth of the country, especially with regards to awareness-raising related to the dangers of irregular migration, legal migration channels and reintegration opportunities.

Activities

Activity 1: Assessment of the management of migration and the youth in Niger, including the Youth Information Point (YIP) and Knowledge Exchange Session on migration and youth

Activity 2: Thematic Session on Migration and Youth with a specific focus on irregular migration, the rights of young migrants and unaccompanied minors, and a Drafting Session on the Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth

Activity 3: Study visit to one African country on Migration and the Youth

Activity 4: Thematic Session on Migration, Youth and Employment, and Drafting Session on the Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth

Activity 5: Thematic Session on Reintegration of returning young migrants, and Drafting Session on the Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth

Activity 6: Training session on awareness-raising campaigns, and a drafting session on the Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth Chapter pertinent to this area

Activity 7: Remote assistance in compiling and finalising the Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth

Results and outputs

  • Knowledge on migration of the personnel deployed in the YIP and other key national and non-governmental stakeholders is increased
  • The capacities to design and implement awareness-raising campaigns of the personnel deployed in the YIP and other key national and non-governmental stakeholders are strengthened through the development of a Practical Guide on Migration and the Youth
  • Specific methods, methodologies and practical knowledge on how to formulate and conduct youth-oriented campaigns are transferred 
  • Support to the development of concrete awareness-raising tools concerning the dangers of irregular migration is provided
  • Practical coordination and cooperation between government and non-government stakeholders is improved
